Survival Guide to the Adolescent Brain

Went to a seminar last week given by Erin Walsh, daughter of Dr. David Walsh, who wrote the best selling book, "Why Do They Act That Way? A Survival Guide to the Adolescent Brain for You and Your Teen. The SAMMIE Library cooperative hosted. We are trying to prepare ourselves to better serve teens. Libraries do a great job with little kids, but we have a ways to go with teens.
Was working in a bigger library on Saturday and had a conversation with a 12 year old who was checking out audio books. She said, "I don't have time to read a whole book, that's why I like poetry." It made me think about how much our teen and college grad children text. Texting is a lot like poems. Concise and to the point. I asked the girl if she had ever participated in a poetry slam? "What's that?"
